This is the local radar that we use to see if there is any nasty weather coming our way or to see when the nasty weather will go away. Local Key West Florida Radar
This is Windfinder, the wind forecast for the areas around The Middle Keys in The Florida Keys. We use it to see what the wind is doing up to a week in advance. It is usually pretty close but be aware, sometimes it is way off. Local Marathon/Islamorada Florida Forecast
This link shows what the wind has been doing in the past at Sombrero Key Lighthouse and is updated every hour about 15 to 20 minutes after the hour. The information is taken from a weather station on a 140 foot light house on the ocean side of The Florida Keys, about 5 miles off shore. Be aware that the wind velocity is taken from an anemometer that is over 100 feet in the air so the actual wind speed at sea level will be a little lighter. We usually take about 3 knots off of that reading. Current wind speeds on the hour at Sombrero Light
This link shows what the wind has been doing in the past at Long Key Platform and is updated every hour about 15 to 20 minutes after the hour. The information is taken from a weather station on a platform a couple of miles off shore on the bay side. This weather station is more accurate when the wind has any North in it. We also check this one to see the water temperature in The Florida Bay. It is amazing how fast it changes! Current wind speeds on the hour at Long Key Platform
Every morning we check all these weather links to get a good idea of what is going on during the day. We use it to determine if there is enough wind to go kiteboarding or SUP kiting, if the wind is light enough to go paddleboarding, what location we will be kiteboarding at, if there are any upcoming storms, and if there is any wind direction change forecast.
You can also use these links to find your local wind reports with in the same site if you do not live in our area. Some of them are hard to navigate but well worth the effort.
